Turning a Flaw into a Feature
Kitchen and Living Room Design
The main challenge of this project was finding a way to work with a load-bearing column that disrupted the space and could easily have become a drawback. The goal was to turn it into an asset — and it worked.
The column now serves as a natural focal point, with the kitchen island positioned on one side and the dining table on the other. To prevent it from feeling too heavy or dominant, it was clad in delicate small-format white tiles. Rather than appearing as a plain structural element, it has become a distinctive and refined design feature.
The interior embraces an eclectic approach, bringing together a wide range of colours that might seem mismatched at first glance — yet ultimately create a vibrant and youthful atmosphere without compromising on warmth, comfort, or coziness.
What was originally a dark, unused section of the kitchen was separated by a wood-effect partition wall, creating a spacious pantry behind it. This area also functions as a utility room, housing the washing machine and dryer.
Throughout the apartment, light and dark wood tones are combined with confidence. In the living area, sandy-toned wallpaper and a slat-panel accent wall add subtle character while maintaining an open and airy feel.
